The Municipality of Évora holds an important photographic collection gathered over the last 25 years, currently representing a significant testimony of local history, as well as the collections from the estates left by photographers of Évora acquired over the last 6 years (José PB Passport and António Passaporte, David Freitas, Eduardo Nogueira, Artur Pastor, Marcolino Silva and Mário da Gama Freixo, among others).
This photographic heritage includes also some great collections of contemporary Portuguese photographers such as Eduardo Gageiro, Luis Pavão, Gérard Castello-Lopes, José Manuel Rodrigues. The Archive´s current collection holds about 450 000 specimens.
A permanent exhibition that aims to recreate the ambience of a 19th century photographic studio is open to the public at the Archive's premises.
