St. Joseph Church and Convent

Convento Novo - St. Joseph Church and Convent

Built between 1720-33, sits on a courtyard accessible by a granite stairway,  also worth mentioning  is the entrance  and the church facade, torn by portals with some remarkable baroque ornaments, aediculae and cartouches of scrolling  volutes also made of local stone.
The Church of Baroque-Rococo style has the nave lined with ashlars and tile panels depicting scenes from the life of Saint Joseph, a painted dome, altars, the crossing and presbytery in gilded woodwork. In the chancel stands the marble tomb of the church patron, the Canon Antonio Rosado Bravo.
